The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has launched the ninth Crop Insurance Week from July 1 to July 7 to raise awareness among farmers about the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). The initiative aims at informing farmers about the benefits of crop insurance and encourage maximum enrollment to protect them against potential crop losses due to natural disasters, pests, or other unforeseen circumstances. A programme was held in the training hall of the local agriculture department, where a large number of farmers from the district participated on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sukhdev Singh, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Sirsa, stated that the campaign was being conducted under the directions of the Centre. He stated that crop insurance provided critical financial assistance to the farmers when their crops failed, helping them recover and sustain

their livelihoods.

The awareness programme was attended by subject expert Rakesh Kunt, Quality Control Inspector Amit Kumar, State Coordinator of Agriculture Insurance Company Vijaydeep, and District Coordinator Vikas, who interacted with the farmers and explained the details of the scheme.

Dr Sukhdev Singh further said as per the Haryana Government’s notification, the Agriculture Insurance Company was authorised to operate the scheme in Sirsa district for the Kharif 2025 season. The crops covered under the scheme include paddy, cotton, bajra (millet), maize, and moong (green gram).

The last date for enrollment under the PMFBY is July 31. For Kisan Credit Card (KCC) holders, the scheme is optional. If a KCC holder wishes to change the crop, they must inform the bank by July 29. Those who wish to opt out of the scheme must submit a written request to their bank by July 24.

The non-loanee farmers can also register for the scheme by submitting documents such as land ownership records (fard and khasra number), Aadhaar card, bank passbook copy, crop sowing certificate and proof of registration under the “Meri Fasal Mera Byora” portal. They can visit their nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) to complete the process. CSC in-charges have been directed to upload all documents to the official portal and ensure farmers’ mobile numbers and email IDs are correctly entered for direct communication from the insurance company.

Dr Sukhdev Singh appealed to all farmers in the district to insure their crops on time and take full advantage of the government-supported scheme. For more information, the farmers are encouraged to contact their Block Agriculture Officer or representatives of the Agriculture Insurance Company.
